We teach YOU the art of aerodynamics so you
can build faster, more balanced race cars.
Hi there! Scott here from AeroDesign.
Not quite sure how aero works? We will help you get a better understanding of the black art of race car aero and improve your laptimes.
We’ve built our online programs to pass on our experience from working at Williams F1 as an Aerodynamicist and our extensive CFD and consulting experience. We’ve got over 200 students from all over the world doing the program now and are hoping we can help you too!
Please get in touch if you have any questions! Always happy to help!
See you in there!
Scott Beeton
BEng (Mech) (Sydney, AUS) + MSc (Aero) (Southampton, UK)
What you'll learn
Our programs will introduce you to the history of aerodynamics in motorsport and give you an insight into how we got to the point that we are at today. Once you understand why it is such an important aspect of vehicle performance we then provide you with a foundation for understanding the fluid dynamic behaviour that affects the flow around a racing vehicle. This applies to open and closed wheel vehicles (eg Formula One and NASCAR respectively), basically this theory applies to anything that moves along the ground at racing speeds!
We build on this understanding and knowledge of the importance of aerodynamics in motorsport in Module 4 using CFD examples of various devices that are fitted to a racing vehicle and discuss the best practices for the design of these components.
The program also covers the pro's and con's of the various test methods such as Wind Tunnel, Track and CFD methods and provides access to the equations that you or your race engineer can use to determine the aero performance from your logged data.
We then discuss your next steps, how you can plan your testing and development, or how you can proceed into our CFD courses by taking advantage of our VIP package.
Overall, this program is designed to take you from the level of someone who has an interest or need to understand how aerodynamics affects the performance of a racing vehicle, to someone that can confidently make design and test decisions based on their newfound understanding and appreciation for this exciting topic.

The Program
The Race Car Aerodynamics (RCA) program provides you with an understanding of the history of aerodynamics in motorsport, the theory of low speed aerodynamics applied to race cars, how it works, and why it is so important to a racing vehicle.
Once you understand why it is so important, we then cover the various aerodynamic devices you’ll find on vehicles, with CFD results “showing” you how they affect performance. We also covers some more advance discussion on forces, development tools like wind tunnels, track testing and computational fluid dynamics, and also covers formulas that can be used in your data analysis packages.
There is also a VIP package available that combines this Race Car Aerodynamics program with two additional programs on Computational Fluid Dynamics for motorsport.

FAQs
Who is this course for? Is it right for me?
This course is for anyone who wants or needs to learn more about Race Car Aerodynamics.
Current students are:
- Track Day Enthusiasts
- Owner / Builders
- Composites manufacturers (inc ex Formula One)
- Race Workshop owners and staff
- Race Engineers (including current and ex- V8 Supercar Race Engineers)
- Students (Formula SAE and Formula Student)
- Potential Formula One Aerodynamicists (we have current students applying for roles at various teams)
If you want to make your own car faster, or help a client make their car faster, then this will teach you how.
The course uses a lot of examples an analogies to give you a solid understanding of how the flow behaves around components on a racecar, how the fluid moves and how you can best make use of it. By removing the complex maths, you won’t be able to finish the course and write your own CFD Turbulence Models, but in reality, that’s not going to make you faster anyway. We want you to finish the course understanding how things work, why they work, and to be able to look at any racecar and be able to work out the design decisions and also spot flaws (you’ll love doing this!)
The courses are really a shortcut to understanding the concepts, the components, balance requirements, test methods and how it all should come together as a package.
If you have any questions, just ask us on the live chat or via email.
Why only online?
It is for your convenience. We moved to the UK and spent a small fortune learning this stuff. You will have the opportunity to learn in your own home or wherever you find an internet connection at your own pace. We have current students in the UK, NZ, Macau, Korea, USA, Canada to name a few!
We’ve considered running in person seminars but even if we had these in capital cities around the world you’ll pay more for flights and accommodation than you will for a course.
However, if you have a large group and require a seminar, or series of lectures, we can accommodate that (and have done it before!)
Can I buy more than one course?
Of course you can!
If you want multiple courses I’d suggest that you look at the VIP package. In the long run it will save you money as we add more and more courses in Race Engineering.
Be quick though, it is a limited offer! Check it out here. VIP MEMBERSHIP
How long will the course take?
It will vary from person to person as you will be able to spend different amounts of time going through the lessons we’ve laid out. No longer than 8 weeks if you did one module per week.
When does my access expire?
We haven’t set a limit on this. The course will be available to you indefinitely.
How can I ask you a question before I purchase?
How can I pay? I see you bill in US Dollars.
You can pay by credit card from anywhere in the world using Stripe or Paypal. We bill in US Dollars.
Our complete site is HTTPS which means it is secure and all of our payments via credit card are through the secure Stripe payment gateway or Paypal. Stripe is one of the biggest payment gateways in the world right now and we’ve chosen to use them and Paypal for a host of reasons. Check out www.stripe.com or www.paypal.com if you have any concerns or contact us.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes you will! Certificates will be provided upon completion of the course.
You can use these to show employers that you are serious about personal development, or to show your customers that you care about them and that you’ve taken the initiative to make sure you can provide them with products that actually work!
Our courses are not certified by any external bodies or universities. They are independent private courses that are designed to teach you as much useful information as possible in a minimal timeframe so that you can then get out there and focus on getting results!
What are the "Presale" courses in CFD?
A presale is a sale that happens before the product exists.
Essentially you are offered a massive discount on the product as it is not yet completed, which is a win for you, and we are able to confirm that a particular course is going to be valuable to the community before we spend weeks/months creating something that nobody wants! It allows us to focus directly on the information that you want, so that we can make you faster!
We currently have two courses in Presale stage. Introduction to CFD and Practical CFD.
These are available individually or as part of the VIP package.
When will the "Presale" CFD courses be ready that are included in the VIP package?
The presale courses in CFD will be available soon! The first few modules are released. We are recording the remainder of the modules now.
Please contact us if there is anything specific that you need prior to that.
I tried "aero" on my car and it didn't work.
Let me guess, you bolted a huge rear wing on.
Your artificially destroyed the balance of the car, and it probably understeered everywhere. Did you change your spring rates and dampers?
A lot goes into an aero package, and that’s what we will teach you.
The amount of money you lost selling those parts would have easily paid for a course and you would have had a faster car by now!
Why you need it…
This opportunity will be the best thing that you’ve ever done to boost your knowledge of vehicle performance. You’ll finally work out why when they added a rear wing the car understeered everywhere, or why their home made splitter didn’t give them the gains that everyone else talks about. They can’t just copy things unless they understand the flow behavior and how it works as a package! That’s when your car really transforms!
The program will give you a fundamental understanding of how your race car works and how aerodynamics has a huge effect on your vehicles performance. We go over the history of aerodynamics and details on suspension and tyres so that you understand how it works and why it affects a race car, and then we delve into the fundamentals of Low Speed Aerodynamics with a monster 45 minute presentation on how air flows around objects, what pressure gradients and vortices are, how wings work, and most importantly why a golf ball has dimples!
After this, you’ll have a solid understanding of the way air flows around objects and we then delve into the various components of a race car like splitters, diffusers, wings, bodywork etc before we round out the program with details of test methods and data logging tools and equations you can use to develop your own car even further.
Our aim is to really give you the ultimate resource for all things related to Race Car Aerodynamics and we’ll be available for questions throughout the program (and after) so that you have everything you need in one place. We are continuing to add examples and we’ll constantly be refining the program based on your questions and feedback so be aware that your one time purchase will actually provide a lifetime of knowledge and access!
This program is designed to give you a solid grounding in Race Car Aerodynamics. After taking this program you should be well versed in:
- how aerodynamics affects a race car
- how it can make it faster around the track
- what features you can implement on your own vehicles
- how to tune an existing race car’s features
- the tools used to design a race car
This program is designed for students, vehicle builders, owner builders, weekend warriors and professionals with an interest in aerodynamics in motorsport or for those who are currently working as a data engineer/designer/race engineer/aerodynamicist. (I was an Aerodynamicist for Williams F1 and have an MSc in Race Car Aerodynamics from the University of Southampton).
If you’ve ever needed to go faster, then this program is for you!
